What Is a Urinary Tract Infection?
A urinary tract infection occurs when an infection occurs in your urinary system, which includes your bladder, kidneys, ureters and/or urethra. Depending on the severity of the infection, as well as what body part it’s impacting, you may experience a variety of symptoms:
Symptoms of a UTI
- Blood in urine
- Burning sensation when peeing
- Cloudy urine
- Fatigue
- Fever
- Foul smell from urine
- Frequent urination
- Pain in bladder
- Pain when urinating
- Vaginal irriation
Who Is At Risk for a UTI?
Anyone can experience a urinary tract infection, but the anatomy of women’s bodies places them at higher risk. Women may also experience recurrent UTIs requiring special prophylactic treatment.
Treatment for a UTI
- Drink plenty of water.
- Take antibiotics as prescribed.
- Use a heating pad on the abdominal area.
- Take an OTC pain medication if needed for discomfort.
