What Steps Can I Take to Reduce the Risk of Injury?

The month of June is recognized as National Safety Month. During this month, efforts are made to increase awareness about how Americans can stay safe and reduce the risk of injury both at home and at work.

Our AFC Urgent Care TN team wants to be a part of this initiative by offering tips on how you can improve upon safety both at home and at work.

How Can You Prevent Injuries at Home?

According to Safe Kids Worldwide, approximately 2,200 children die at home from unintentional injuries each year. Therefore, it is important to take steps to reduce the risk of injury at home.

You can start by making sure the floor remains a clutter-free zone, making the bathroom a no-slip zone, leaving lights on at night to improve vision, and keeping poisons and other chemicals out of reach.

Most Common Injuries at Home

  • Falls
  • Choking
  • Suffocation
  • Burns
  • Poisoning
  • Knife cuts

What Is Considered a Work-Related Injury?

As stated by OSHA, a work-related injury occurs when an event or exposure in the work environment occurs.

Common work-related injuries that occur include slips, trips, falls, fires, vehicle-related accidents and/or repetitive stress injuries.
