Get the Facts About Sun Protection! | AFC Urgent Care of East Tennessee

Are you ready to walk on sunshine this spring and summer? Well, maybe not literally—but at least walk in the sunshine?

We’ve got you covered. Our team at AFC Urgent Care TN wants to offer some suggestions on protecting your skin before you head out into the sun!

Protect Your Skin Like a Pro

While you might want to feel the sun on your skin, no one wants to feel the burn. Read on for a look at ways you can help to protect your skin from the strong summer sun.

First and foremost, wear sunscreen. No matter if you plan to be out in the sun for two hours or two minutes, you want to make putting sunscreen on a part of your morning routine. Therefore, after your morning shower and before you dress, go ahead and put on sunscreen so you can be protected as soon as you step outdoors for the day.

Choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and apply it to all exposed skin at least 30 minutes before heading outdoors. If you’re outdoors for a while, be sure to reapply at least every two hours.

Second, you want to make sure you bring your sunglasses with you when going outside. Your skin isn’t the only thing that can get burned, so you want to make sure you protect your eyes, as well.

However, not just any old sunglasses will do. You want to make sure the lenses of your sunglasses have 100 percent UVA and UVB protection to fully protect your eyes while out in the sun.

Finally, take your sun protection one step further by topping your outfit with a broad-brimmed hat. This type of hat protects your scalp, ears and neck—and looks super sassy and stylish, too!
