Does Type A Flu or Type B Flu Last Longer?
Let’s face it. No one wants the flu. However, if you do get the flu, is there a “better” one to be diagnosed with?
Our team at AFC Urgent Care TN wants to share some basic details about the different types of flu, as well as what symptoms you might experience.
What Are the Types of Flu?
There are three main strains (or types) of the flu—A, B and C. Of the three, Flu A typically spreads more quickly and has more severe symptoms.
If you test positive for Flu A, the virus will usually last anywhere from three to seven days.
Symptoms of Flu A
- Chills
- Congestion
- Cough
- Fatigue
- Fever
- Headaches
- Muscle aches
- Runny nose
When Should You See a Doctor?
The short answer—quickly! If you believe you have the flu, seek prompt medical attention. Your doctor can determine if your symptoms are the flu or another illness. If you have the flu and are within 48 hours of symptom onset, your doctor may prescribe antiviral medication to reduce severity.
Treatment for the Flu
- Antiviral medication, if prescribed by a doctor
- Plenty of fluids
- OTC medications to treat symptoms, like cough syrup
- Throat lozenges
- Rest
