Caring for a Broken Arm
With the fall weather comes a season of memories to be created, whether you’re outside grilling, going for a jog or participating in a sport. However, with outdoor activity comes the risk of injury.
So what should you do if an injury does occur? Are there any steps that you can take in the time between the injury occurring and handing the patient off to a physician? Well, you may be able to do more than you think.
For example, here are three ways to tend to a broken arm:
1) Apply Pressure
If the arm is bleeding, you first need to stop the blood flowing out of the wound. Take a clean towel and wrap the wound in it, applying pressure to the point of injury. If you can see bone sticking out, don’t touch the exposed bone and/or attempt to put it back in place.
2) Reduce Swelling
In order to reduce the swelling that is occurring, make sure to apply ice to the wound, elevating the arm above the heart if at all possible.
3) Seek Medical Attention
Immediately go to see a physician or other medical provider to see what the next steps are. AFC Urgent Care / Family Care is ready to help you by providing urgent care at the speed of your life.
