Can I Go to an AFC Center for Fracture Treatment?
We hope you never get hurt, but sometimes it’s just a part of life. Minor injuries like cuts or sprains will heal on their own without much medical intervention, but you should always seek a medical opinion when it comes to broken bones.
If your bones don’t heal correctly, it can cause chronic pain or a worsening injury, so come see us for a quick and easy exam!
Our AFC Urgent Care TN centers are equipped with X-ray machines that allow us to diagnose your injury faster and more accurately, so read on to learn how we can take care of you.
Will I Know if I Break a Bone?
Your bones have the crucial roles of protecting your organs and supporting your entire body. They literally do the heavy lifting all over your body! In order to do this, they have to be strong enough to withstand daily activities and minor impacts. They are also a little flexible, which allows your bones to absorb pressures and avoid breaking.
However, your bones are not indestructible. A strong-enough force or a fall can be too much pressure and can cause your bone to give way. Full breaks often immediately show signs of physical deformity, but that isn’t the case for all fractures. If the site of your injury is swollen, tender or painful to the touch or movement, stop by for further investigation.
4 Bones That Commonly Fracture
- Wrists
- Ankles
- Hips
- Clavicle (collarbone)
How Do X-Rays Work?
When you come see us for an exam, we will start by asking you a lot of questions about the injury and how you received it. We will do a visual exam of the area, and then we will take you back for an X-ray! We use digital X-rays in our centers, which are similar technology to traditional X-rays, except digital X-rays produce images that are uploaded onto a computer rather than developed on film.
The machine sends X-ray beams through your body, and the image that is uploaded onto our screen provides us with a clear image of your internal structure. We are looking for dark spaces around your bone where they normally wouldn’t be, or obvious signs of cracking or breaking. If we do see a fracture, we will discuss next steps together and help you on your healing journey.
Digital X-Rays vs. Traditional X-Rays
- Reduced radiation exposure
- Clearer images
- Fast turnaround
- Reduced environmental impact
